The Long and Windy Road

"OHANA, Means family, family means no one gets left behind, or forgotten" - Lilo and Stitch

A lovely trip down to the Scottish Borders starting and ending in Edinburgh. A bit breezy, which made deciding the route to take was based on what is the less painful option.

Away from the Rushing Crowd

Its never easy leading a ride, espcially if your teenage son decides to bunk off with his mates, and you don't find out where he is until the following day.

To make life easier, we followed NCN route 1 south from Edinburgh. This does go over one of the higher passes in the Moorfoots (402m above sea level), but with the wind behind us as we climbed the big hill, it was quite pleasant.

Unfortunately, it was no so pleasant for cyclists coming the other way.

We had lunch in Innerleithen, then followed the NCN route 1 to near the confluence of the Tweed and Ettrick Water.

After much navigating of busy A roads through Galashiels, we made it to Melrose.

Coming back was OK, apart from the wind. Very slow climbing the Meldons, but it avoids the problems of cycling along the narrow A road south of Eddleston. However, the trip back along the equally picturesque.

Warm Regards,
