No Rain Again!!!

"The trouble with weather forecasting is that it's right too often for us to ignore it and wrong too often for us to rely on it." - Patrick Young

Despite the weather forecast, 11 of us ventured to the Usher Hall. We went to Dunfermline in Fife, a longer ride that of late, making the most of the relatively calm, and most importantly, dry weather. There was a constant breeze, but this was not too strong. Cycling over the Forth on the Road bridge gave some excellent views of distant mountains, some of which still had some snow on top.

Ski Trip to France

"A bad day skiing is better then a good day at work." - Unknown

A week skiing in the Trois Vallées was absolutely fantastic. The week before, about 70 cm of snow fell. During the week, the sun shone continuously, providing excellent conditions for skiing. I don't think I had a bad day's skiing while I was there. I stayed in the Hotel Amelie, in Brides les Bains, a 20 minute gondola ride away from Meribel. Even though I couldn't ski in / out, I still managed to cover most of the Trois Vallées, including the new Orelle area, beyond Val Thorens.

Fifteen minutes spent on Saturday, means Fifteen Minutes less on Sunday. In Spokes Ride terms, this is 2 ½ miles. This is nothing technical, you do not need a degree in bike maintenance to do the following:

Basic Pre Ride Maintenance
Written by SnowCycle
Tuesday, 29 May 2007

Before a Spokes Ride, give your bike a quick maintenance check, which will take about 1/2 hour. This is to ensure your bike is in relatively good condition, check that you have packed spares unique to your bike, including a spare inner tube, and lastly that your bike is clean(ish).

Even though you may use your every day, Spokes Rides are long enough to find any weakness in your bike. I have, in my time as leader of Spokes Rides, had to reassemble chains, reconnect mudguards and fix racks. In fact, apart from catastrophic failures, I can fix most problems on the bike enough to enable you to cycle home. This includes snapped rear derailleurs and buckled wheels.

Your bike doesn't have to be perfect, but a little TLC on your bike will not only make Spokes Rides more fun, but make everyday cycling fun too.
